Welcome to MCM’s Weekend Roundup of events in Montgomery County. Here are nine things to do this weekend, November 3-5.

Friday, November 3

Holiday Open House: The Family Room in Laytonsville is more than just a local store, it is a gathering place with events planned throughout the year. The Holiday Open House takes place Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Family Room is located at 6820 Olney Laytonsville Road.

Art Exhibit Reception: Artists & Makers Studios presents “Beauty Eternal” art exhibit with works by Teresa Oaxaca now through Nov. 11 An opening reception takes place Friday from 5-8 p.m. Free. For more information, click here.

Family Campfire: Enjoy a campfire at Brookside Gardens Nature Center in Wheaton. Bring your favorite campfire snack for roasting Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Register with ActiveMontgomery. $7 fee.

Saturday, November 4

Maryland Emancipation Day at Oakley Cabin: Live music, guided tours, storytelling with Janice Green, and a special presentation make up a day of celebration at the Oakley Cabin on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. Free. The museum and park are located at 3610 Brookeville Road in Olney.

Maydale Nature Classroom Community Celebration: The community celebrations features live music, roasting S’mores on campfires, a visit from Smokey Bear, apple cider making, and crafts Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Free. Maydale is located at 1638 Maydale Drive in Colesville. For more information, click here.

“Living in Bethesda” Art Exhibit: Gallery B presents works by Anna Rose Soevik that draw attention to Bethesda’s notable figures and moments through history. The exhibit closes Sunday. Gallery hours are Friday – Saturday, noon-5 pm; Sunday, 11 am – 2 pm. The gallery is located at 7700 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite E in downtown Bethesda.

​Sunday, November 5

Fabric Spiral Collage Workshop:  VisArts’ Studio Fellow Jamille Wallick leads a collaborative art-building workshop to create individual patchwork spirals for a community quilt. Free, but a reservation is required. For more information and to obtain a ticket, click here. The drop-in workshop takes place from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at VisAbility Art Lab’s Studio at 36F Maryland Avenue in Rockville.

Hope for Kids Fall Festival and Costume Party: The nonprofit Extra-Ordinary Birthdays (EOB) works to provide homeless children with a personalized birthday celebration. Sunday, bring your family to a special event to raise funds for EOB that includes food, prizes, dancing, activities and games, and a costume contest. The event takes place Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Building. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.

The Mountaintop: Round House Theatre presents the Olivier Award-winning play ‘The Mountaintop’ Sunday at 2 p.m. The play is set the night before Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s untimely death.
