Novelist Alice McDermott to be Featured at Gaithersburg Book Festival

New York Times best-selling author Alice McDermott will be featured on Saturday, May 18, at the Gaithersburg Book Festival (GBF). Her stories, essays, and reviews have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The New Yorker, Harper’s, Commonweal, and elsewhere.

The Washington Post Book World editor John Williams will join McDermott to discuss her latest book, “Absolution,” at the festival. The book offers a riveting account of women’s lives on the margins of the Vietnam War. American women—American wives—have been mostly minor characters in the literature of the Vietnam War, but in Absolution, they take center stage.

Gaithersburg Mayor and GBF creator Jud Ashman shares a brief review of “Absolution.”

McDermott presents at 4:15 p.m. in the F. Scott Fitzgerald Pavilion and will sign books at 5:15 p.m.
