Number of Employees Retiring From MCPS Drops Slightly

676 Montgomery County Public School employees retired by the end of this school year, which is 52 fewer than at the end of the previous school year.

“Seems pretty consistent from this year and last,” said Jessica Baxter, MCPS director of public information.

In the school year that ended in 2022, 728 employees retired. The prior year, 591 left. MCPS projects that only 362 employees will retire at the end of the upcoming school year.

There has been a shortage of teachers, aides and bus drivers at MCPS due, in part, to the global pandemic.

The district has 210 schools and an enrollment of about 160,000 students who are taught by about 14,000 teachers.
