Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics
Thursday morning the Maryland Department of Health reported 16,654 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in Montgomery County, which is an increase of 61 from the 16,593 cases reported Wednesday.
Since the first case in March, 743 county residents have died from COVID-19. This is an increase of five since Wednesday. More Montgomery County residents have died due to COVID-19 than any other jurisdiction in the state. Prince George’s has lost 702 residents, the second-highest number.
The positivity rate of 3.34% reported Thursday is an increase of 0.07% since Wednesday. This is the ninth straight day the rate remained below 4% in the county.
Maryland COVID-19 Statistics
As of Thursday morning, there have been 80,836 confirmed cases throughout the state. That is an increase of 664 cases in the last 24 hours. Montgomery County makes up only 9% of the new cases statewide, down from a high of over 30% in May. COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 3,281 Marylanders, five since Wednesday.
Currently, 528 Marylanders are hospitalized with COVID-19, which is 23 more than Wednesday. The number of patients hospitalized has risen 37% since July 13 when 386 patients were hospitalized. Of the patients currently in the hospital, 133 are in intensive care, which is four less than Wednesday.

The health department reported a testing positivity rate of 4.56% Wednesday, which is an increase of 0.07% from Wednesday’s rate. The rate has remained below 5% for more than three weeks since June 26.
Statewide, a total of 23,905 cases and 1,340 deaths involve the state’s African American community.
