Welcome to MCM’s Weekend Roundup of events in Montgomery County. Here are nine things to do this weekend, October 13-15.
Friday, October 13
Outdoor Movie Night: At the Flower Avenue Urban Park, families are invited to grab dinner, hangout and watch the movie Encanto. Live music by Ekorox at 6 p.m. The event hosted by Montgomery Parks and Discover Long Branch runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Free. For more information, click here.
Art Exhibit Reception: Bethesda’s Gallery B presents “Living in Bethesda” art exhibit from now through Nov. 5. An opening reception takes place Friday from 6-8 p.m. Free. For more information, click here.
Plena Fridays: Plena is a genre of music and dance originating from Puerto Rico around 1900. Sandy Spring Museum offers monthly instruction in Plena style of music followed by a jam session appropriate for all ages and experience-levels. Instruments are provided. Instruction will be in Spanish and English, but no prior Spanish-language knowledge is necessary. Food and Puerto Rican moonshine will be available for sale. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased online. Sandy Spring Museum is located at 17901 Bentley Road in Sandy Spring.
Saturday, October 14
Spooky Spy Train: The Cabin John and Wheaton miniature trains will have a Halloween Eye Spy Train in October. Ride through “Trainsylvania” and look along the railroad tracks for hidden ghosts, goblins, bats, black ats, and other friendly creatures. Keep track of them all on your Halloween Eye Spy Train card. The $8 rides take place 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays in October. For more information, click here.
Antique & Classic Car Show: The 60th annual car show returns to Rockville from 11 a.m. to 3:3o p.m. at Rockville Civic Center Park. The festivities include the car show, flea market, live music, food and drink. Free to attend. The park is located at 603 Edmonston Drive. For more information, click here.
Lil’ Pumpkins Festival and Artisan Market: Families are invited to enjoy all kinds of spooky fall festivities—bouncy house, trick-or-treating, pumpkin painting, costume parades, dance parties, Artisan’s Maket, and a biergarten for the parents—from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown. Finish the day with an outdoor screening of Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie at sundown. Free but some activities require registration. For more information, click here.
Sunday, October 15
Taste of Rio: This event features 15 Rio restaurants, live music, and craft cocktails along the lakefront boardwalk from 2 to 6 p.m. in Gaithersburg. Tickets are available for purchase at the event. For more information, click here. Rio is located at 9841 Washingtonian Blvd. in Gaithersburg.
Wheaton Arts Parade & Festival: The seventh annual Wheaton Arts Parade and Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The event is free to attend and will allow residents to immerse themselves in local art—both at the festival and the parade. The festival includes three stages of entertainment, more than 40 booths of exhibits, and free children’s art fun in the Kids’ Zone. Montgomery Symphony Orchestra Fall Concert: The orchestra performs Strauss’ Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 “Patorale” Sunday at Sligo Seventh-ay Adventist Church in Takoma Park from 3 to 5 p.m. Free. For more information, click here.
