The Montgomery County Office of Procurement is one of five teams selected to participate in a Harvard University bootcamp that helps teams achieve their climate goals by using creative procurement strategies.
The program began in March and runs through April. Participants are learning how to effectively launch a major purchase, project or initiative that will have positive environmental impacts.
The Montgomery County team, which is composed of five staff members from Finance and Procurement, is designing a proposal request that will reduce the environmental impact of its printing and mailing services for county property tax notifications.
Other teams in the program were selected from local governments around the country in places including Arizona, California, Hawaii and New Hampshire. Each group was selected based on how much the bootcamp would impact the jurisdiction’s sustainable purchasing practices.
“We are committed to making sustainability an integral part of procurement,” County Executive Marc Elrich said in a press release. “I appreciate our Office of Procurement enthusiastically trying to learn new strategies to build a more environmentally responsible and resilient community.”
