‘Official Lax Girl’ Visits White Oak as MOCO Lacrosse Marks 25 Years

MOCO Lacrosse is in its 25th year as Founder Jeff Wagner continues his mission to level the playing field in Montgomery County. “Official Lax Girl” Tari Kandemiri — @officiallaxgirl on X — visited MOCO Lacrosse campers at the White Oak Community and Recreation Center on Thursday to talk about her experiences in the sport.

Kandemiri, a Silver Spring native, co-hosted an ESPN women’s lacrosse show and interned for NBC Sports at the 2016 Rio Olympics. In 2021 she announced she signed on as a Nike Lacrosse Athlete. She was a MOCO Lacrosse counselor as a student at Springbrook High School. Born in Zimbabwe, Kandemiri came to the U.S. as a child, and has a goal to build a lacrosse program in Zimbabwe. She now lives in Atlanta.

Wagner, a Bethesda resident, started MOCO Lacrosse in 1999 to introduce the sport to underserved youths who may not otherwise have access to lacrosse. It started at one recreation center and is now at 25 locations. The organization works with the county’s recreation department.
