Montgomery County officials pointed residents to a fund raising money to help those impacted by Maui wildfires in Hawaii.
More than $43 million has been raised as of Thursday, according to the webpage for the Maui Strong Fund, which is run through the Hawai‘i Community Foundation.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer provided a link to the fund, stating that Maui County Fire Chief Brad Ventura suggested donating during the Fire-Rescue International conference in Kansas City.
County Executive Marc Elrich also asked residents to consider donating.
A 70-member urban search and rescue team from Montgomery County was deployed to Hawaii on Wednesday to aid in rescue work. Maryland Task Force 1 arrived in Maui on Thursday, according to MCFRS Assistant Chief David Pazos.
The Maui Police Department reported 111 fatalities as of Thursday, according to Maui County.
