Officials in Montgomery County urge residents to be cautious as unhealthy air quality persists due to remnants from wildfires in Canada.
A Code Purple air quality alert has been issued for the D.C. region. MyMCM asked County Chief of Public Health Services Dr. James Bridgers about what residents should know.
In a release from the county, Health Officer Dr. Kisha Davis stated, “Today’s Code Purple air quality alert indicates very unhealthy air conditions for the entire public, not just those with respiratory illnesses. The smoke from the Canadian wildfires has exacerbated a typical air quality alert and everyone should pay attention and take precautions.”
Bridgers said rain conditions are expected soon which will reduce some particles.
Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) canceled all outdoor recess for Thursday and Montgomery County Recreation canceled all outdoor activities for the day.
