Monday was back to school day for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), the largest public school district in Maryland with more than 160,000 students.
Superintendent Dr. Monifa McKnight talked to MyMCM Monday morning at Rockville High School about expectations for the school year, new Covid-19 protocols, security and the shortage of staff. MCPS has faced teacher and bus driver shortages, but McKnight says there are no plans to increase class sizes and now they are “99 percent staffed.”
MCPS is made up of 210 schools and has over 25,000 employees.
Welcome back to all of our students and thank you to staff for all you’ve done to prepare for today’s return. We hope you have a great first day of school and a wonderful school year! #MCPSFirstDay pic.twitter.com/a1UuDWvbw0
