Paint Branch High School Student Charged as Adult for Possessing Gun at School

A 16-year-old Paint Branch High School student was charged with possession of a gun on school property Tuesday.

Montgomery County Police Community Engagement Officers responded to the school on Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville at 10:13 a.m. after being told that a teacher had notified school security that they saw what appeared to be a gun on a male student.

The student consented to a self-search, and a Smith and Wesson handgun was found in his possession, according to police.

He was charged as an adult with possession of a dangerous deadly weapon on school property, possession of a handgun, underage possession of a firearm and other related charges.

MCPD released the student’s name as he is charged as an adult, but MCM opted not to use his name because they are a minor.
