Park Academy Series Offers Yoga, Art, and Tree Climbing in Spring

Montgomery Parks has launched its Park Academy Series for spring, focusing on mental and physical well-being. Registration opened on Feb. 18, offering diverse programs for all ages in local parks and activity buildings.

Program Highlights:

  • Storytime Art: Designed for young children and caregivers, these sessions combine storytelling with art creation. Participants will enjoy a story and then create related art using provided materials. Sessions are scheduled on Fridays at 1 p.m. at Clarksburg Neighborhood Park, featuring books like “Mouse Paint” on March 14 and “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” on May 2.

  • Midday Reset Yoga: A 45-minute indoor class focusing on the restorative practice of yoga nidra, or yogic sleep. Six sessions held on Wednesdays at 12:15 p.m. starting April 2 and continuing through May 14 at Mayor Jayne H. Plank Kensington Cabin.

  • Partnering Dance 101: Participants can learn basic Cha-Cha and Foxtrot dance steps in a fun, social setting. Ideal for date nights or connecting with others, classes begin on March 10, Mondays at 5:30 p.m., at Arora Hills Local Park in Clarksburg. Eight sessions continue through Apr. 14.

  • Canopy Connection – Tree Climbing for Teens: A hands-on course during MCPS spring break, teaching teens the basics of tree climbing, including rope techniques and knot tying. Scheduled for Wednesday, April 16, from 9 a.m. to Noon at Washington Square Neighborhood Park in Gaithersburg.

  • Canopy Connection – Tree Climbing for 55+: Adults aged 55 and older can experience guided tree climbing, learning essential techniques and safety measures. This session takes place on Friday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to Noon at Clarksburg Neighborhood Park.
