Neil Parrott, the Republican candidate for Congress in Maryland’s 6th District, conceded Thursday afternoon.
AP called the race in favor of Democrat April McClain-Delaney on Nov. 9.
In a press release, Parrott wrote, “The vast majority of votes have now been counted, and it has become clear that April McClain-Delaney will be elected to this Congressional seat.”
Parrott also wrote, “I am very thankful for the enthusiastic, grassroots support of people from all walks of life who worked alongside us over the last several months. I am thankful for all of the business owners, farmers, and elected officials who took the time to help me understand the unique needs and strengths of our communities. I am thankful for my family and friends who helped us to run a positive campaign, focused on the issues that matter to Garrett, Allegany, Washington and Frederick Counties, as well as the northern part of Montgomery County.”
That seat currently is held by U.S. Rep. David Trone, who ran an unsuccessful race in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate against Prince George’s Executive Angela Alsobrooks.
She went on to defeat former Gov. Larry Hogan for the seat currently held by retiring U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin.
