About a mile-long portion of the Sligo Creek Open Parkway will be suspended on Fridays to help lighten traffic from Purple Line construction.
A 1.1-mile southern portion between Old Carroll Avenue and Piney Branch Road will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists indefinitely on Fridays starting this week, according to Montgomery Parks.
It is expected to last two years, “until Purple Line construction is substantially completed.” It will stay open on Saturdays and Sundays.
The northern part of the parkway between Forest Glen Road and University Boulevard will stay open Fridays.
Montgomery Parks has an Open Parkways initiative that started during the pandemic. Under the program, parts of Sligo Creek Parkway are closed to cars every weekend but are open for pedestrians and bicyclists.
