Beginning Sept. 16, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration has been working on improvements to Layhill Road in Silver Spring and Wilson Lane in Bethesda.
Layhill Road, between Intercounty Connector and Georgia Avenue, and Wilson Lane, between MacArthur Boulevard and Hampden Lane, will be improved with micro-surfacing material, which extends the life of the current asphalt, according to a press release.
The pavement improvement projects will have crews working from Sundays through Thursdays from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. During work hours, a flagging operation will guide motorists through multiple lane closures. Slurry Pavers of Virginia, the State Highway Administration’s contractor, will guide motorists through the work zone using message signs, flaggers and barrels, according to the release.
The State Highway Administration seeks to maintain safety for crews and motorists in work zones. Drivers are instructed to stay alert, obey posted speed limits and look for other traffic changes.
Weather permitting, the projects should be completed by early October per the release.
