Dominique Mwepu, 53, sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).
On Monday around 7:55 p.m., police and fire rescue personnel responded to Frederick Road and High Point Drive for reports of a crash involving a Honda Prelude driver and a pedestrian. Police said the driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Detectives urge anyone who may have seen the crash to call them at 240-773-6620.
In September, at least four pedestrians including Mwepu died in fatal collisions in the county.
A GoFundMe fundraiser is accepting donations to support Mwepu’s family. According to the fundraiser, Mwepu had moved his family into their new home and was coming home after dropping off a U-Haul truck when he was fatally struck. He leaves behind his wife, Mireille, and son, Joshua.
