Police said a 19-year-old pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries in a hit-and-run collision in White Oak last week.
At about 9:54 p.m. last Thursday, May 5, officers and fire rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Columbia Pike and Prelude Drive for a reported hit-and-run collision involving a pedestrian, the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) said in a release.
Officers found a 19-year-old man from Gaithersburg suffering serious injuries. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
According to police, witnesses said the driver continued northbound on Columbia Pike and did not stop after the crash. Officers identified car parts left behind and determined it was a gray Ford Fusion.
Police searched surrounding parking areas and found a gray 2014 Ford Fusion with damage consistent with a pedestrian crash. The car parts located on the scene of the collision matched parts missing from the 2014 Ford Fusion.
MCPD identified and located the driver. This is an ongoing investigation. If charges are to be filed against the driver, police said it will be done after the investigation is complete and in consultation with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney.
According to police investigation, the pedestrian was crossing northbound on Columbia Pike from east to west when the driver struck him in or near a crosswalk as the driver was going northbound on Columbia Pike approaching Prelude Drive. The intersection is controlled by traffic and pedestrian signals and the light cycle at the time is under investigation, police said.
