The pedestrian who was hit by a car in the White Oak area on Thursday afternoon has died.
65-year-old David Rafael Velasquez of Silver Spring succumbed to his injuries on Thursday evening at a local hospital.
According to a Montgomery County Police Department press release, an investigation revealed that a car that was traveling south on New Hampshire Avenue attempted to make a right turn onto McCeney Avenue. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a stop sign. The car then continued traveling across the service road, and onto the sidewalk where it struck Velasquez.
The driver of the Camry has been identified as a 17-year-old female from Upper Marlboro. She was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Police have not confirmed if the driver is facing charges.
