The Pike District Partnership that works to market businesses in North Bethesda and the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division signed a partnership agreement Monday to enhance collaboration between area businesses, government and educational institutions.
The Capital Tech Bridge initiative will prepare students to work at the naval institution and enable businesses to foster innovation together with the Naval Surface Warfare Center. The center intends to work with a multitude of labs to solve complex problems.
“This has been a long time in coming,” declared Matt Herrmann, president of the Pike District Partnership board of directors. “We want to be that partner that executes on that plan to see it come to fruition.”
County Executive Mark Elrich noted, “To see this progress and the direction it is going is really remarkable.”
The county used to totally rely on the federal government to provide jobs, but now the county is becoming a hub for biotech, life sciences, artificial intelligence and light manufacturing, Elrich said. “We want to make sure we diversify our economic base.”
North Bethesda is ideally located with nearby transit, federal offices, colleges, Strathmore Music Center and the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, according to Council President Andrew Friedson.
“North Bethesda and The Pike District really are such an asset,” he said.
