Residents can provide input on a draft of Montgomery County’s Pedestrian Master Plan during a public hearing on Tuesday, July 25.
Prior to the hearing, the Montgomery County Planning Board will brief the County Council about the plan. The briefing will begin at 11 a.m. and the hearing will start at 1:30 p.m.
The introduction of the Pedestrian Master Plan marks the Planning Board’s first comprehensive vision to create a safe, accessible and convenient experience for pedestrians across the county. Officials hope the plan will help the county achieve its Vision Zero goal of preventing traffic deaths.
“Montgomery County had 541 motor vehicle crashes leading to bodily injuries and 48 traffic fatalities last year, which is why the comprehensive approach to pedestrian and bicyclist safety provided by the Montgomery County Planning Board is critical,” County Council President Evan Glass said in a press release about the public hearing.
The County Council will hold a committee work session to review and propose changes to the draft this fall.
Event registration to testify live at the hearing is now full. However, community members can sign up here to be added to the waitlist to testify. The deadline to sign up to speak at the hearing is 2 p.m on Monday, July 24. Written, audio and video testimony can be submitted to the County Council here.
