‘Play For Ray’: Bullis Football Family Honors Memory of Coach Butler

On Friday night, the Bullis Bulldogs played their first home football game since the sudden death of head coach Ray Butler.

A sign behind the Bullis bench and shirts that read Play for Ray were worn by students, staff and coaches. A moment of silence was held before the game against Bishop O’Connell.

Butler was in his second year as head coach but had worked at Bullis of over a decade in several capacities including as a security guard. Butler was a friend and mentor to many on the football team and the school at large.

Bullis shut out O’Connell 41-0.

Skyler Springs, the team’s former offensive coordinator, took over as Bullis’ new head coach. Springs’ father Shawn was an all-time great football player and track star at Springbrook High School.
