Police arrested and charged an 18-year-old man for fatally stabbing a 19-year-old on Ellsworth Drive in Downtown Silver Spring this week, per a release from the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).
Dakari Thomas, 18, is charged with the murder of Getro Banamina, 19, police said. According to online court records, Thomas is a Silver Spring resident. Police responded to the 900 block of Ellsworth Drive around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday for a reported stabbing at the location, MCPD said. Officers found Thomas in possession of a knife with lacerations on his hand and arm. Thomas told officers he had an altercation with another male who fled.
Police found Banamina on Fenton Street with a stab wound to his chest. He died at a hospital.
Thomas is charged with first-degree murder, according to online court records. Police said he will also be charged with attempted escape after he tried to flee while being led to a police cruiser. He is held without bond.
