Officers interrupted an attempted vehicle theft in Takoma Park on Tuesday, according to police.
At about 5:31 p.m., Takoma Park Police Department officers responded to Hickory Avenue for a vehicle theft in progress, per a release from the police department. Officers interrupted four juveniles as they tried to steal a red Hyundai. The Hyundai’s window was broken and the ignition was punched out.
Two of the juveniles got into a separate blue Hyundai and reversed into the red Hyundai before fleeing the area.
The other two juveniles tried to flee on foot but were apprehended by police. They were identified as 14-year-olds and were later released to their parents.
According to police, the blue Hyundai the juveniles fled in was reported stolen earlier Tuesday. It belongs to a Takoma Park resident. Police said the description was given to local jurisdictions and logged into the National Crime Information Center stolen vehicle database.
The investigation continues. Police ask anyone with information to call the Takoma Park Police Department at 301-270-1100.
