Montgomery County Police officers stopped a car thief who had a gun Wednesday at 1 a.m.
Special teams of officers from Wheaton and Silver Spring were patrolling the area of Georgia Avenue and Shorefield Road for car thieves when they saw a suspect in a stolen blue van.
According to police, the suspect left the van and tried to steal a tan pickup that was parked on Georgia Woods Place but was stopped by the vehicle’s anti-theft device.
The officers confronted the suspect, and a foot chase ensued. During the chase, the suspect discarded a firearm. Police caught the suspect.
As a result, police recovered two stolen vehicles and secured the gun. The suspect was arrested and faces multiple charges.
