Montgomery County police arrested a Silver Spring man Sunday after a Good Samaritan reported his location to authorities.
Officers charged 46-year-old Isaias Orellana in connection with a shooting on University Boulevard East in Silver Spring.
Detectives said Orellana and a friend argued with a group of people, including the victim, around 6 p.m. During the argument, Orellana and his friend were assaulted. Police said Orellana then pulled out a handgun.
He racked a live round from the weapon, struck the victim in the head, and fired rounds while leaving the scene. Orellana fled westbound on Piney Branch Road, according to police.
A Good Samaritan later saw Orellana in a parking lot in the 8800 block of Piney Branch Road and called police. Officers responded and took Orellana into custody. They recovered his handgun nearby.
Paramedics treated and released the male victim at the scene for a head injury. Orellana’s friend suffered a head laceration and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police transported Orellana to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. He faces charges including second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and multiple handgun offenses.
Orellana remains held without bond.
