Montgomery County police arrested a 37-year-old man Tuesday for shoplifting and resisting arrest during a retail theft in downtown Silver Spring.

Officers from the 3rd District Central Business District team took Joshua Tyrell Mundy into custody after he allegedly stole merchandise from a CVS at 1290 East West Highway, police said.

Store employees alerted officers to an active theft at about 5:20 p.m. Officers saw Mundy hiding multiple items in a large bag and trying to leave without paying, according to police.

Bicycle officers saw Mundy carrying the stolen merchandise toward the Silver Spring Metro Station. When they tried to stop him, he ran and allegedly fought officers to escape, police said.

Officers used a Taser and department-trained control techniques to arrest Mundy according to police. He was evaluated at a hospital before being taken to the Central Processing Unit.

Mundy, of Royal Oak, Md., faces charges of theft under $1,500 and resisting arrest. He is being held without bond.
