Montgomery County Police (MCPD) have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the attempted sexual assault of a teenager in Gaithersburg.
According to a MCPD press release, on the afternoon of June 17 the suspect, later identified as Samuel Deweh Gray, Jr., allegedly began “violently assaulting” the female victim in the elevator of a Gaithersburg office building. Bystanders intervened to stop the assault, at which point the suspect ran away.
Gray Jr. was taken into custody on June 18. Police subsequently charged him with attempted first-degree rape, first-degree assault and second-degree assault.
MCM has learned that Montgomery County police also criminally cited Gray Jr., whom court documents show to be a Montgomery Village resident, for possession of drug paraphernalia just days earlier on June 12.
Gray Jr.’s preliminary hearing in the sexual assault case is set for July 19, while the drug paraphernalia trial is set for July 15.
