Police have partnered with local auto-body shops and vehicle service centers for the program.
Technicians at these shops and service centers chemically etch a serial number onto the vehicle’s catalytic converter. This number is entered into a database which helps trace the part if it is stolen.
A window cling that says the vehicle’s converter has been etched is included in the service to further discourage possible theft.
Residents can schedule a free appointment by calling (240) -773-5881 or by signing up here.
