Montgomery County Police and partnering law enforcement agencies will conduct a traffic safety operation on Route 29 on Wednesday, April 2, to enforce Maryland’s Move Over Law and deter speeding.
The enforcement effort, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., aims to protect law enforcement officers, emergency responders, and stranded motorists. Officers will focus on drivers who fail to move over for stopped vehicles with flashing lights or exceed speed limits.
Maryland State Police, Maryland Transportation Authority Police, and the Howard County Police Department will assist with enforcement along Route 29, including the Howard County portion up to Interstate 70.
Maryland law requires drivers to move over or slow down when approaching any stopped vehicle displaying warning signals, including police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, tow trucks, and disabled vehicles. Violators can face fines and points on their driving records.
Officials urge motorists to follow the law to prevent crashes and enhance roadside safety.
