Following its pilot program in Silver Spring and Wheaton, Montgomery County Police now plan to add its Drone as First Responder program to Bethesda.
Police officers initiate the drones after receiving a call concerning public safety. The drone, according to police, responds to the scene quickly and enables officers to know what is happening and exactly where. It also reduces the number of officers needed for the call.
A community meeting about the drone program is planned at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School cafeteria from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on July 17. Residents also can attend virtually on Teams.
Plans also are underway to expand in the Upcounty area, and a community meeting was held in June at Gaithersburg High School.
