County residents with Hyundai vehicles can get a free software upgrade to help prevent a theft method popularized on social media. The Montgomery County Police Department worked with Hyundai to combat the rise in auto thefts. The offer is available Thursday through Saturday, May 9-11, and applies to Hyundai vehicles with model years 2011-2021.
Car owners or lessees simply need to bring their Hyundai vehicle to the Public Safety Headquarters at 100 Edison Park Drive to receive the software upgrade and a steering wheel lock. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 9 and Friday, May 10, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Appointments and IDs are not necessary, and there is no cost for the software upgrade or the steering wheel lock.
