Police Investigate Multiple Assaults on Unhoused People, Release Security Video

Montgomery County Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying six suspects who committed assaults on four separate unhoused individuals in Downtown Silver Spring on July 16.

“If anyone can help identify these criminals please let us know,” MCPD Third District Commander Jason Cokinos wrote on X. “Very disgusting and unacceptable behavior.”

According to police, the suspects assaulted three men and a woman.

Security cameras in the area caught one of the assaults and MCPD subsequently released the video on X.

The video begins with a dark-colored sedan, identified as the suspects’ vehicle, driving past the parking garages near Veterans Plaza in Downtown Silver Spring.

After the shot of the vehicle, the video cuts to three individuals, identified as Suspects One, Two and Six, walking in Veterans Plaza.

The video then cuts to a man, one of the unhoused individuals who was assaulted, flailing defensively on the ground while Suspects One and Two kick and punch him. Suspects Three and Four then join in before Suspect Five walks in, though he does not appear to throw any blows before walking away.

Suspect Six does not appear in the video of the actual assault.
