Police Investigate Threat at Wootton High School

Thomas S. Wootton High School in Rockville brought its athletes off the fields and back into the school building Wednesday afternoon while Montgomery County Police officers investigated a nearby incident involving a current and a former student.

Shortly after 3 p.m., school administrators were informed that police were investigating an incident along Wootton Parkway in connection with an alleged threat made by a student and a former student to harm the school, according to an email from Wootton staff to families.

Police detained the students, and Wootton went into a shelter in place status “out of an abundance of caution,” according to the letter. School already had been dismissed for the day.

The shelter in place was lifted in slightly less than 30 minutes, and after school activities and normal school operations resumed. Evening athletic games were held.

Montgomery County Public Schools Office of Systemwide Safety and Emergency Management and the Office of School Support and Improvement stayed in communication with Wootton administrators.
