Hyundai thefts in Montgomery County have decreased 90% since October of 2023, according to Montgomery County Police.
The police department created the Auto Crime Enforcement Section (ACES) toward the beginning of 2023 to address the number of auto thefts occurring throughout the county.
Three-day events were held in May and August of this year to distribute anti-theft security software installations at no cost.
In October 2023, 103 Hyundais were reported stolen, according to police. In December, the number of Hyundais reported stolen dropped to 42, indicating a 60% total decrease. This data includes both reported and attempted Hyundai thefts.
Reported thefts then increased in January and February of 2024 before trending downward again.
As of September, a record low of 35 Hyundais were reported stolen, indicating a 56% total decrease from January to September of 2024.
