With a ho, ho, ho and the roar of his motorcycle, Santa Claus traveled throughout Montgomery County before ending his day Wednesday at the Children’s Inn at National Institutes of Health in Bethesda.
Every year, the Montgomery County Police Centralized Traffic Section spreads Christmas cheer throughout all six police districts.
The officers, including Santa and his elves, stopped at Damascus Safeway, Harris Teeter in Olney, Kentlands, Rockville Town Center, Pike & Rose and Downtown Silver Spring.
The police brought toys to the young patients at the Children’s Inn. It is a private, non-profit residence that enables children to stay with their families as they participate in clinical research studies.
More than 730 families stayed at The Inn during fiscal year 2023.
Retired Montgomery County Police Officer Bill Lumpkin portrayed the first Santa, back in 1975, after his newborn son spent many months at the Children’s Inn. The tradition has been an annual event ever since.
Santa made a stop to feed his helpers and reindeer.
