A skateboarder was killed by a driver, who then fled the scene, early Monday morning, according to Montgomery County Police.
The hit and run occurred at 12:02 a.m. on Veirs Mill Road and Monterrey Drive close to downtown Wheaton.
According to a preliminary investigation, an adult male was riding his skateboard in the road westbound on Veirs Mill Road just before Monterrey Drive when he was struck by the driver of a white Acura TL, who also was traveling westbound.
Police believe the Acura, which may have been a 2009 model, suffered damage to its front right corner, including a missing portion of its bumper cover and a missing or broken headlight, fog light and parking lot. There also may have been damage to the car’s windshield or window.
