An armed carjacking was committed in the White Oak area last Friday, according to police, and detectives are asking for the public’s help identifying six suspects.
Officers responded to the 11600 block of Lockwood Drive for a reported armed carjacking last Friday night at about 8:30 p.m., according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).
According to police, victims were trying to park their red 2016 Toyota Highlander when a gray four-door sedan pulled up behind them and blocked them from pulling away.
Two suspects got out of the gray car, approached the victims and showed handguns. They forced the victims out of their car and the suspects left in the stolen Toyota Highlander followed by the gray sedan, according to police.
Police said officers in the area saw a red Toyota Highlander and a gray four-door sedan speeding on New Hampshire Avenue. Both cars were going without headlights.
Officers recognized the Toyota as matching the description of the stolen vehicle.
They initiated a traffic stop, but the driver did not stop.
The suspects were seen a few hours later on video surveillance using the victim’s credit cards at a Capitol Heights gas station, police stated.
Police released surveillance video.
Police said the Toyota was recovered Monday in Oxon Hill with severe front-end damage.
Detectives think the suspects may have been injured.
