Officers from Montgomery County Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint Friday evening starting 8 p.m., weather permitting.
The enforcement is intended to address two issues the police encounter during the fall and winter months. First, less daylight hours during the fall and winter can lead to more crashes between car drivers and pedestrians. Over the past four years, records show that two-thirds of all fatal pedestrian injuries occurred between dusk and dawn. Second, an increase in drinking is typical for the fall and winter holidays.
Police will not disclose the location of the checkpoint in advance.
MCPD encourages county residents to drive responsibly and ride with a sober driver.
