Montgomery High Schools Score High in U.S. News 2023 Rankings
U.S. News & World Report released their annual Best High School rankings Tuesday. At No. 140, Poolesville High School and at No. 147, Walt Whitman in Bethesda are only two of three high schools in Maryland to make the top 150 nationally. Eastern Technical High School in Baltimore County ranked number 145 nationally.
U.S. News ranks nearly 18,000 public high schools in the country based on their performance on state assessment and how well they prepare students for college. The six factors used to compile a score for each school include college readiness, breadth of college curriculum, state assessment math and reading proficiency, state assessment math and reading performance, underserved student performance, and graduation rate.
All 25 county high schools earned spots on the Best High Schools list.
Five Montgomery County High Schools rank among the top 10 public schools in Maryland according to the U.S. News report on Best High Schools in Maryland.
Poolesville ranks as the best school in Maryland and No. 140 in the country.
Walt Whitman in Bethesda follows Poolesville as third best in the state and No. 147 in the country.
Wootton High School in Rockville ranks as fourth best in the state and No. 235 in the country. Churchill High School in Potomac ranked fifth in the state and No. 252 in the country.
Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda rank ninth in the state and No. 462 in the country.
Three other county high schools rank within the top 20 in Maryland as well. Bethesda-Chevy Chase ranks No. 12 in the state and No. 574 nationally, while Richard Montgomery in Rockville ranks No. 13 in the state and No. 681 in the country. Northwest in Germantown ranks No. 18 in the state and #963 nationally.
