UPDATE Thursday, Nov 17 at 5 a.m.: The repairs to the broken water main and the road are complete. Clopper Road is open in both directions between Mateny Road and Waring Station Road.
UPDATE: One lane of Clopper Road (MD-117) is open as of 6 a.m. Wednesday. The portion of Clopper Road from Mateny Road to Waring Station Road closed Tuesday following a water main break. Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission is on-site working to replace the section of pipe that failed.

A portion of Clopper Road (MD-117), from Mateny Road to Waring Station Road, is closed due to a sinkhole.
The Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (OEMHS) announced the closure via Twitter just after 3 p.m. today.
The closed portion of Clopper Road is just north of Seneca Creek State Park. Drivers may use Great Seneca Highway (MD-119) as an alternate route.
Due to a sinkhole, Clopper Road (MD-117) is closed from Mateny Road to Waring Station Road. Seek alternate route.

This marks the second time a sinkhole has caused a traffic disruption in Montgomery County this year. In June, a 25-foot wide sinkhole closed part of southbound I-270, before I-370.
