A fire at a large home in Potomac displaced a family of seven Monday. There were no injuries.
According to Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Services Spokesperson Pete Piringer, family members living on Mary Mead Court off Newbridge Drive contacted fire personnel around 3:30 p.m. when they saw flames coming from the roof.
The fire was “in advanced stages” when firefighters arrived. Between 75 and 80 emergency personnel assisted on the scene. There were “pretty heavy fire conditions throughout” the second floor and a partial collapse of the chimney area, Piringer said.
The only person in the house at the time escaped before firefighters arrived. Firefighters rescued several chicks that recently were purchased for Easter, Piringer said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but appears accidental, Piringer said. The damage is expected to be in the millions of dollars, he noted.
