Prince Georges’ County Executive Angela Alsobrooks announced her candidacy for the U.S. Senator Tuesday. She joins Montgomery County Councilmember Will Jawando, U.S. Rep. David Trone and Jerome Segal.
They are running for the seat currently held by U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin, who said he was not seeking reelection.
In a two-minute video, Alsobrooks stated that she will focus on the economy, women’s health issues and voting rights. She also said, “There aren’t enough people in the U.S. Senator who live like, think like and look like the people they’re supposed to represent.”
She quoted her great grandmother, who told her, “If you don’t like something, go farther and do better.”
Alsobrooks, a Democrat, has been Prince George’s executive since 2018. She is the first woman to hold that position.
Previously, she served two terms as that county’s state’s attorney.
There aren’t enough people in the US Senate who live like, think like and look like the people they’re supposed to represent. My Great-Grandma told me, “if you don’t like something, go farther and do better.” I’m proud to say I’m running for the Senate. Let’s go farther together. pic.twitter.com/uIyO9ARbck
