The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will hold an in-person community meeting on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 6:30 p.m., to discuss walkability studies for two elementary schools. The event will take place in the all-purpose room at Rosemary Hills Elementary School, 2111 Porter Road, Silver Spring.
The meeting will review findings from walkability studies conducted for Rosemary Hills and Rock Creek Forest elementary schools. MCDOT staff will share the state of current infrastructure and discuss proposed safety improvements for students walking or biking to school. The studies focused on sidewalks and other safety measures within the schools’ walksheds. A walkshed identifies the area from which students can realistically and safely walk or bike to school. It is often used in urban planning and transportation studies to improve accessibility and safety for pedestrians.
The public is encouraged to review the studies on the project website before attending. Comments can be submitted via email at walkyourway@montgomerycountymd.gov or by phone at 240-777-2192 through Dec. 30. Feedback collected will inform future safety projects.
