Quince Orchard is now 8-0 but staying undefeated did not come easily for the Cougars against their rival Northwest Jaguars Friday night. It was QO’s latest win in what I call the Battle of Great Seneca.
The Jaguars took the opening kickoff and managed the clock for nearly the first nine minutes before turning over the ball at the 3 yard line. The timely fumble halted what looked to be a masterful NW game plan to control the game tempo. In other words keep the ball out of the hands of Quince Orchard Marquez Cooper. At halftime both teams were scoreless going into the locker room.
Before the night was through Cooper would score twice. The exclamation point came in the 4th quarter when QO took over on downs at NW’s 41 yard line. On the next play Cooper took the hand off 41 yard to the house. At that point the Cougars had a commanding lead 17-0.
Northwest would score later in the final quarter with a combination of run and pass leaving the Cougar Dome crowd with a future thought. Could this match up before a standing room only crowd be repeated again during the playoffs in November?
Only time will tell as the battle of Great Seneca awaits its next chapter.
