The annual Congressional Art Competition for high school students is open.
Original artwork by students in Maryland’s Congressional 8th District can by submitted by March 30.
“Through art, we advance the spirit of democracy, challenging our assumptions, affirming our values and sharing our experiences,” said U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-8). “I encourage all high school students from Maryland’s beautiful Eighth Congressional District to enter the 2025 competition and showcase their talent and creativity with our community.”
The winning artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year, along with the other winning entries throughout the country.
Also, the winning entry and a larger pool of honorees from the district will be displayed at VisArts on Gibbs Road from May 7 through May 11. A selection of runner-up pieces from the exhibition will also be featured in Raskin’s Rockville District Office.
Entries must be submitted digitally via the portal here no later than 11:59 p.m. on March 30. The online submission must include a single entry as well as a completed Student Information & Release Form. Complete submission guidelines can be found on Raskin’s website here.
Last year, Jean-Luc Chretien of Kensington, a student at the Sidwell Friends School, submitted the winning piece. It was entitled, Caged.
All entries to the competition can also be viewed in Rep. Raskin’s 2024 virtual gallery. More than 150 students entered the competition during 2024.
