U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin has completed four of his six chemotherapy treatments for Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma and is “acting as a truth squad” as the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee.
By scheduling his medical treatments for the weekends, Raskin has not missed any votes or meetings, he said.
Raskin is touched by the hundreds of bandanas people “from all over the country” have sent him to cover the hair he has lost. “My wounded pride would not allow me to go forward without covering my head,” he said. The one he wore during his exclusive interview with MCM came from Stevie Van Zandt from Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band.
During the interview, he spoke about bipartisanship – and the lack thereof, but noted the committee investigating the violence in the Capitol on Jan. 6 was bipartisan as his work promoting human rights in Saudi Arabia with U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace, a Republican from South Carolina.
He currently is working to bring infrastructure money home to the 8th District, including funding for bicycle pathways.
When asked about his political future, Raskin replied “My highest aspiration right now is to beat lymphoma and to return fulltime to the land of the living.”
