Following the Oct. 27 arrest of a Gaithersburg teen in connection with the fatal shooting of Keon Jones, 19, of Germantown, the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has closed out all its homicide cases that have occurred so far this year.
The arrest of Kyler McRoy, 19, “marks a 100% closure rate for all homicides investigated by the Montgomery County Police Department – Major Crimes Division in 2022,” the department wrote in a news release.
“Homicide investigations are extremely complex and require the detectives to work long hours as they work to bring justice to the victims and their families. It is rare that a Homicide Unit would have a 100% closure rate and it speaks volumes about the caliber of our investigators and their commitment to holding people accountable for their actions,” MCP noted in an email to MyMCM.
The most recent arrest dates back to a Feb. 20 incident at Cinnamon Drive and Mustard Seed Court, where police responded after being told shots had been fired. When officers arrived, they saw an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim, Jones, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on Feb. 11.
McRoy was charged with first degree murder, use of a firearm in a violent crime, illegal possession of a firearm, assault and reckless endangerment.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 18.
