Recreation Department Providing Financial Assistance Program

Montgomery County Recreation will start accepting applications for its 2025 financial assistance program, Rec Assist, Monday, Dec. 9. The program offers financial aid to county residents receiving public assistance, providing scholarships for recreation classes, activities, and memberships.

“Every resident should have access to recreational activities,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. “Rec Assist helps reduce financial hurdles. In 2024, nearly $900,000 in funding enabled residents to participate in programs. We hope to see more residents benefit in 2025.”

Eligibility extends to recipients of programs such as Care for Kids, Free and Reduced-Price Meals (FARMS), Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, and others. Students attending Montgomery County schools in the Community Eligibility Provision are also eligible.

Approved applicants will receive $400 per family member in their ActiveMONTGOMERY accounts. Funds can be used throughout 2025 or until depleted, allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applications are accepted online, by mail, or in-person at 2425 Reedie Drive, 10th Floor, Wheaton, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Approvals will be processed within 10 business days.
