Metro will shut down Red Line tracks between Friendship Heights and Grosvenor for weekend service on Saturday and Sunday, March 9-10 and March 16-17. Metro plans to repair fasteners and rails and eliminate joints during this temporary shutdown.
Metro will close both the Bethesda and Medical Center stations during the track work. Free shuttle buses will run between the stations. Express shuttle buses will operate to and from Friendship Heights and Grosvenor stations, while local shuttle buses will run to and from Friendship Heights and Grosvenor stations with stops at the Bethesda and Medical Center stations.
Metro will maintain normal rail service in two sections during the shutdown, running between Shady Grove and Grosvenor and between Friendship Heights and Glenmont.
Metrorail opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 1 a.m. on Saturday and midnight on Sunday. Red Line trains will run every 6 minutes during the daytime and every 10 minutes in the evening.
Ride On Bus Bay Locations During the Shutdown
Ride On bus bay locations will be temporarily relocated to accommodate the shuttle bus service during both weekends. The locations are located below.
Friendship Heights
- Ride On Route 34: Will temporarily relocate from bay K to bay D
- Route L8 (Run by Ride On Weekends Only): Will temporarily relocate from bay K to bay E
- Express and Local Shuttles: Bus Bay K (service stop northbound on Wisconsin Avenue, far side of Western Avenue)
- Bus Bay D: Shared with a community shuttle that operates every 50 minutes on weekends
- Bus Bay E: Shared with Metrobus N6 that operates every 45 minutes on weekends
Bethesda
- Local Northbound Shuttle to Grosvenor: Bus Bay B
- Local Southbound Shuttle to Friendship Heights: Bus Bay C
Medical Center
- Local Northbound Shuttle to Grosvenor: Bus Bay E
- Local Southbound Shuttle to Friendship Heights: Service stop southbound on Rockville Pike, far side of South Drive
Grosvenor
