Registration is open for this year’s Washington D.C. region Bike to Work Day set for May 19 and organized by the Washington Area Bicyclist Association and Commuter Connections.
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT), which is a member of the Commuter Connections network, will sponsor seven of the 13 total pit stops during the morning of the event.
There are six other locations in the county that will host pit stops, aside from those sponsored by MCDOT, including one in Gaithersburg during the afternoon.
To sign up, workers and leisure riders can find their pit stop out of over 100 locations on the DMV Bike to Work Day website. According to a press release, the first 15,000 people to register and participate in the free event will receive a t-shirt and automatic entry into a raffle for a new bike.
Throughout the morning, music, refreshments, local vendors and free raffle prizes in addition to the grand prize raffle of a new bike can be found at each MCDOT-sponsored pit stop.
Bike to Work Day began about 67 years ago and has been celebrated nationally on the third Friday of every May as a healthier, more eco-friendly method of commuting to work. Residents can find more information for first-time riders, how to join bike to work convoys in the area, or how to find a riding buddy on the regional website.
